Disaster Preparedness at Home Part 2

I am a person that likes to empower individuals … It doesn’t matter if I am selling you a home or helping you handle a difficult personal situation.  No one wants to be impacted by a natural disaster but in reality we all are vulnerable.  In your home I  suggests that you have the ability to stay put and live independently for about a week without electricity or water. // // Don’t panic … this can be done easier than you would think!  Here are a couple of  things to help you get started in creating a separate storage of supplies. Water … 7 gallons Perscription Medication … 7 days worth Copy of your ID / Drivers License / Pass Port Leather work gloves Aluminum blanket for warmth (very inexpensive and easy to find at any sport store) Food that you would eat with little cooking / think of keeping a supply of dried fruit and nuts for energy I have a lot more to say about this subject and certainly more ideas to make you fully independent so do contact me if you want more ideas …. ….AND for now … get started on some for the above mentioned ideas .. that will spur you to continue and make a complete storage supply!!!!  Don’t be afraid .. be prepared! // //...

Ready … Set … LIST!

Ready … Set … LIST!

1)  Spring is fast approaching ………… 2)  Buyers are still trying to take advantage of the extremely low interest rates that will go way soon and not return for quite some time. 3)  Inventory is low low low !!!! that is good news for any Seller in this market. While we can expect to see prices SLOWLY creeping upward this is a good time to be on the market to capture the buyers enthusiasm for real estate …. for certain we still cannot get overly ambitious  with our pricing … BUT you can expect to see an increase over recent home sales and that makes it attractive to sellers that want/need to sell.   Keep in mind that by the end of the summer our selling market will begin to tapper off and as we near the fall holidays we will go back to the customary slowdown till spring … timing is important as you begin to plan you next real estate move. For more conversation on this, or any other subject … call Al Keys...

Multiple Offers for your home !

Multiple Offers for your home !

This is a very interesting time in real-estate ….. we have been here before and what do you know … we are here again but for different reasons.  With interest rates so so so low / market inventory low and a plethora of buyers we see again the multiple offer situation happening very often.   With that said you see properties that remain on the market week after week …  It is my opinion that this multiple offer situation is generated not by marketing but by the the calculated and intelligent decision to price the property below market value to generate an abundance of interest and offers …. the most number of offers I recently know of this week is 21 offers for a single family home that was accepted at $110,000 ABOVE list price ! Call for more information ……… Al Keys, Broker...

Moving !

Moving !

Moving ………… sometimes it is a great adventure that awaits us and we cannot seem to move fast enough … BUT … usually moving is a necessary step to get from one place to another but doesn’t at all have this great adventure attached to it! ……………… Regardless of which experience you are having there are some very basic and helpful things to incorporate into your plan of attack.   First Label / mark / identify in some way the items that are CRITICAL … the items you MUST keep …(be realistic the things you NEED) Second group / label / identify those items that you really want and those you can live without.  So this grouping will have 2 separate labels or groups.  This way as you continue on the days nearer to your move you will get clearer regarding what you will take with you and what you will leave behind. Third task is to throw out and remove from your line of sight all the items you know you never use / don’t remember you even have / are broken or non-functioning …… At this pint you can call movers to estimate what the cost will be for the items you will actually be moving / or what size vehicle you will need to lease for the move (remember the items you won’t use but will pay to put in storage are actually items you are re-purchasing in your storage fees monthly so be sure these items have VALUE …. Sharpen your pencil and calculate the storage cost  as many times these could have been purchased new by the time you finish paying for two or three years of storage. Next think of family and friends that might benefit from some items that you no longer have use for … I have personally benefited from such ”hand me ups” Finally think “tax write off” by donating items to local charities as this may be the most financially sound thing to do ……. not to mention it relieves you of the care of keeping  or the cost of storing things you don’t use. Enjoy a fresher / lighter sense of being with less “extra” stuff and the ability to concentrate on those items that actually help your life to function…. Al Keys...

Living in Nature

Living in Nature

I have been so fortunate for the past year to find myself living in a semi-wild environment in the foothills of Montecito !!!!!  Some say I have an amazing life … I say I have a very basic life that I choose to see and experience in a very exciting way .. The other day while we had been experiencing a real heat way (something I actually like) … well when early evening was approaching I decided to take walk outside the house and what I became a part of, was a surprise and a delight to me.  The first creature I see was a coyote, running down into the dry creek-bed …. Yes  for sure that was a delight …. But as I continued to walk, still enjoying my  coyote vision, I saw the new Bob-Cat family out hunting for food with the two new babies getting some first hand lessons in stalking and hunting …. needless to say developing that hunting skill is critical for survival as this is their first year of life. As if that wasn’t enough …. I next come upon the pair of deer foraging after what has been a very hot and dry week…… The amazing thing to me is that I felt a part of the entire rhythm and movement of life … it is as though all of us mammals need to get a bit of a break from the heat and a little time to stretch our legs.  the opportunity to live and walk among these other beautiful beings is remarkable and keeps me in a state of wonder and gratitude, sometimes to the point of tears.  I often have this same sense as I spend my day among other humans … What a remarkable experience to share time and space...
